100% Free
Examulator will always be free for personal, non-commercial use by anyone studying for their (ISC)² certifications. No subscriptions, no paywalls, no feature limits. If it helps you pass, that's reward enough. Of course if you want to contribute to our Red Bull and Cheetos fund to help fuel late night coding marathons, we won't complain either!
Origin Story
Examulator started as a late-night coding project when I found myself studying for my own (ISC)² exams and became frustrated by the lack of a reasonably-priced, high-quality exam emulator. Dozens of web sites existed, charging insane prices, claiming to offer realistic sample exams -- only to find out they had inferior question pools which in no way resembled what people actually experience when they take their exam.
What started as a personal project will eventually grow into a full-featured Computerized Adaptive Testing engine implementing a similar 3-Parameter Logistic IRT model used in real (ISC)² exams. Built with ASP.NET Core 10 and SQLite — a technical learning experience as much as a study tool.

In Action
The three-band exam header keeps all critical information in view at all times: your exam details on the left, pacing stats in the centre, and the countdown timer alongside your question counter on the right.
In CAT mode, each question is selected in real time to maximise the precision of your ability estimate at your current level — exactly how the real (ISC)² exam works.
| Countdown Timer | Pacing Stats | Mark for Review | Instant Feedback |
After every exam you receive a comprehensive results screen: your pass/fail verdict, difficulty-weighted scaled score out of 1000, and a per-domain breakdown showing exactly where you stand.
You can drill down to see exactly which sub-domains you need to review, and can review the questions along with the explanations of why your chosen answer was correct or incorrect, along with a key reference (such as NIST document) pointing you to an authorative source for additional information.
Each domain is rated Above Proficiency, Near Proficiency, or Below Proficiency — mirroring the (ISC)² score report you will see on exam day.
| Above / Near / Below Proficiency | Domain Bar Chart | Question Review | Print Results |
Quiz mode remembers every question you have ever answered and lets you filter your next quiz to focus on exactly what needs work: unanswered questions, previously incorrect answers, or questions you flagged for follow-up.
Run untimed for relaxed study (or when you're constantly being interrupted by your 3 year old!), or set a proportional time budget to practice under exam conditions. Your results are saved automatically for continuous progress tracking.
| History-Based Filters | Untimed Option | Domain Selection | Configurable Length |
Every completed exam is saved to a local results database and shown in a sortable, searchable history table. Click any row to open the full results in a new window — including the complete question-by-question review.
Results are stored locally on your machine and never leave your device unless you explicitly opt into anonymous data sharing (which is only used to improve the CAT scoring results across the board for all users).
| Sortable by Any Column | Text Filter | Full Historical Review | Local & Private |
Exam Modes
Every mode uses domain-proportional question selection to mirror the real (ISC)² exam structure — so you always receive the right mix of topics.
Features
Examulator implements a full three-parameter logistic Item Response Theory model, similar* to what is used by (ISC)² — the same mathematics that power the real CAT exam. Not a simple random quiz.
* (ISC)²'s model is proprietary intellectual property and is not subject to public disclosure. What Examulator implements is an approximation of (ISC)²'s model based on Claude Opus' "best guess" from their publicly-shared documentation on their web site describing how their examination process/grading works. The author has no access to (ISC)²'s IP and it would be a violation of the (ISC)² code of ethics to use such knowledge even if he did.
Certifications
Question banks distributed separately as SQLite database files and loaded alongside the application.
Multiple exams can be installed simultaneously. Study for multiple exams simultaneously.
Over 2.5 million scenario-based Generation 2 questions across all 9 exams.
Download one question pool, download them all. Your choice.
