Accessibility Statement for Examulator

Certification Tool and Die, Ltd. is committed to making Examulator usable by people with a wide range of abilities. This statement describes what accessibility support Examulator provides today, what standards we target, what limitations we know about, and how to reach us with concerns or suggestions.

Standards we target

Examulator aims to conform with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. We test against and are compatible with:

• Screen readers: NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), VoiceOver (macOS), TalkBack (Android)

• Browsers: current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop; Chrome and Samsung Internet on Android

• Assistive input methods: any keyboard, any operating system's built-in dictation, and any assistive technology that produces standard keyboard or pointer events (including switch access frameworks on Android)

We have not commissioned a formal third-party audit. The improvements described here are self-assessed. We will update this statement as we make further progress.

We do not claim WCAG Level AAA conformance.We do not claim WCAG Level AAA conformance across the whole application, and some individual criteria in Level A (particularly in the Reports subsystem — see Known Limitations) may not yet be fully met. This is an area of active work.

What Examulator provides

For screen-reader users

• Landmark structure on every page (<header>, <nav>, <main>, <footer> with appropriate ARIA roles)

• Semantic heading hierarchy with no skipped levels

• Every navigation link, button, form control, and image has an accessible name

• Skip-to-main-content link that appears when you tab into any page

• Live regions announce important state changes: timer milestones (10 min / 5 min / 1 min / 30 sec / expiry), the result of pressing "View Answer" in Quiz mode, and form validation errors

• All exam functions are keyboard-operable — no drag-and-drop, no mouse-only controls

• PASS/FAIL, correct/wrong, and domain scores are always conveyed by text as well as color

For low-vision users

• Adjustable base font size (Normal / Large / Extra large) in Accessibility settings

• Choice of reading font (system default, Arial, Verdana, Tahoma) based on research indicating plain sans-serif fonts serve dyslexic and low-vision readers well

• Light, dark, and high-contrast themes; system preference (prefers-color-scheme, prefers-contrast) is respected when no explicit choice has been made

• Optional enhanced focus indicators (thicker gold outlines) for keyboard and low-vision users

• Layout is responsive to browser zoom up to 200% without loss of content or horizontal scrolling

For users with vestibular or motion sensitivity

• Optional Reduce motion setting disables non-essential transitions and animations

• Operating-system prefers-reduced-motion setting is respected automatically

For users with dyslexia or reading differences

• Optional Reading-comfort typography setting increases line height, letter spacing, and word spacing for extended reading

• Choice of plain sans-serif fonts shown by research to perform as well as or better than specialty dyslexia fonts

For users with attention, memory, or cognitive differences

• Optional Hide countdown timer setting keeps the exam timer running but removes it from the display, reducing time-anxiety

• Optional Notes on flagged questions setting lets you add short free-form notes to any flagged question, visible on the Results screen for review

• Quiz mode defaults to untimed so study sessions have no artificial time pressure

• Question review flag preserved across the exam

For users with motor impairments

• Full keyboard navigation on every screen

• Optional Larger tap targets setting (Android) meets WCAG AAA 44 px minimum touch target size

• No hover-only controls; no drag-and-drop; no fine-motor gestures required

• Optional Extended time mode (1.5× or 2× standard time) for study purposes; clearly labeled as invalidating exam-simulation accuracy

For users of assistive input

Examulator does not implement its own speech-to-text, custom cursor, dwell click, or switch-access framework. Instead, every interactive element uses standard HTML controls that work with your operating system's built-in accessibility framework. This means:

• Voice dictation works in every text input via Windows Speech Recognition, macOS Dictation, or Android Voice Access

• Switch access works via Android's built-in Switch Access service

• Screen magnifiers work with the browser or OS zoom

• Cursor and dwell customization works via OS settings

We deliberately avoid reimplementing these features because your existing tool is almost always better tuned to you than an app-specific alternative would be.

Where to find and change accessibility settings

Open the ♿ Accessibility link in the top navigation bar of any Examulator screen. All settings are persisted to your local device and apply immediately. Nothing you configure here is transmitted to us or to any third party.

Known limitations

We list these openly because we would rather you know than be surprised.

Charts in the Reports subsystem lack text alternatives

The Reports pages render several charts using HTML5 <canvas> elements, which are opaque to screen readers. As of this release, screen-reader users cannot access the data underlying score-progression, domain-trend, difficulty-distribution, or pacing charts.

Workaround: every chart's data is also available in the Exam History detail view for each individual session. We are working on adding sortable data tables alongside each chart as our next accessibility priority.

Some non-native clickable regions lack keyboard access

A small number of card-style controls on Select Exam, Reports Configure, and Quiz Config screens are implemented as <div> elements with click handlers rather than as <button> elements. Keyboard-only users cannot activate these directly and must use another control. We are progressively converting these to fully keyboard-accessible patterns.

Workaround: the same actions are available through the header navigation or through the Exam History screen, all of which are fully keyboard-accessible.

Mobile PageTitle propagation is partial

On MAUI (Android) some pages do not yet update the window title when navigated to, which reduces the cues TalkBack provides when moving between screens. Coverage is currently 100% on the most-used pages (Home, Select Exam, Configure Quiz, Question, Results, Reports, Historical Results, Exam History, Help, Contribute Setup and Confirm). Uncommon pages may still repeat the parent title.

Content of exam questions

Examulator does not modify the wording or complexity of exam questions themselves, because doing so would invalidate the practice-simulator premise. Users with reading differences may still find the Reading-comfort typography and larger font size settings helpful.

Contrast in charts

Some Chart.js series use auto-generated colors that may not meet WCAG AA contrast against the chart background in every combination. We are converting to a hand-picked high-contrast palette as part of the chart-accessibility work.

How to report an accessibility problem

We take accessibility feedback seriously and treat it as a defect report rather than a feature request.

• What you expected

We aim to respond within 5 business days and to fix reproducible accessibility defects in the following release cycle. If a fix will take longer, we will tell you an honest timeline.

Accessibility and the Contribute Results feature

The optional Contribute Results feature transmits anonymous IRT calibration data to help us refine question item parameters. It transmits no personal information regardless of the user's assistive-technology setup and no accessibility settings are transmitted. What this statement does not cover

• The certifying bodies' actual exams. Pearson VUE, Prometric, and other exam-delivery vendors have their own accommodations processes. If you need testing accommodations for a real certification exam, contact the certifying body (ISC2, ISACA, etc.) directly.

• Third-party sites we link to, including Google Sites, Google Drive, and Ko-fi. Those services publish their own accessibility statements.

• The Google Play listing page for Examulator (Google Play has its own accessibility conformance).
