Accessibility Statement for the Certification Tool and Die Website

Certification Tool and Die, Ltd. is committed to making this website usable by people with a wide range of abilities. This statement describes what accessibility support the website provides today, what standard we measure ourselves against, what limitations we know about, and how to reach us if something does not work for you.

Scope

This statement covers the public pages published at www.certificationtoolanddie.com, including Home, Exam Advantage, Examulator, White Papers, About Us, and Donate.

It does not cover the Examulator or Exam Advantage applications, the files hosted in our Google Drive shares, or any third-party site we link to. Those are addressed under "What this statement does not cover," below.


Conformance status

We measure this website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means most of the site meets the standard, but some content does not yet. The specific gaps we are aware of are listed under Known Limitations. We would rather tell you plainly where we fall short than publish a claim we cannot stand behind.

This assessment is a self-evaluation. It has not been audited by an independent third party, and it has not been reviewed by users of assistive technology. We will say so here if and when that changes.


About the platform we use

This website is built on Google Sites. That choice has consequences worth being honest about, because it determines what we can and cannot fix ourselves.

Google Sites gives every page, automatically:

Google Sites also imposes limits. We cannot hand-edit the underlying HTML, add ARIA attributes, adjust the reading order independently of the visual order, control the markup of the built-in navigation menu, or change how the platform generates its heading-anchor links. Where a limitation below is a platform constraint rather than something we can correct, we say so.

One platform behaviour is worth naming because readers sometimes notice it: Google rewrites links that point off this site, replacing the address we entered with a Google redirect address that encodes the real destination. The link still arrives where we intended, and the rewriting does not affect what a screen reader announces — assistive technology reads the link's text or its image description, not the underlying address. It does mean that hovering over an outbound link shows you a Google redirect rather than the real destination. We cannot switch this off. Where an outbound link goes somewhere you might reasonably want to verify first, we name the destination in the surrounding text.

Known limitations

We list these openly because we would rather you know than be surprised. Each one includes a way to get the same information or file by another route.

Some images and screenshots lack text alternatives

The linked images on the home page now carry text descriptions. Elsewhere — principally the annotated application screenshots on the Examulator and Exam Advantage pages — images do not yet carry meaningful alternative text, so screen-reader users do not receive their content. This is a Level A gap and closing the remainder is our highest accessibility priority.

What we are doing: adding descriptive alternative text to every remaining informative image, and marking purely decorative images as decorative.

In the meantime: every screenshot on those pages is accompanied by body text that describes the same feature. If a screenshot appears to show something the surrounding text does not explain, email us and we will describe it for you.

Some links are images or icons that may lack a description

Where a link is an image or an icon rather than words — the Ko-fi contribution button on the Donate page is the clearest example — the link needs a text description for a screen reader to announce anything useful. Without one, assistive technology falls back to reading out the underlying web address, which in our case is a long Google redirect address that describes nothing.

What we are doing: auditing every image and icon link on the site and giving each one a plain-language description of where it goes.

In the meantime: the body text next to each of these links names the destination. The coffee cup on the Donate page goes to our page at ko-fi.com.

Downloads are delivered through embedded Google Drive folders

Our program packages, question pools, course files, and white papers are distributed through Google Drive folder views embedded in the page. This embedded file browser is Google's, not ours; we cannot change its markup, its keyboard behaviour, how it is labelled to assistive technology, or how it is announced by a screen reader. Some users find it difficult or impossible to operate.

Workaround: every embedded folder is also reachable as a direct Google Drive link that opens in a new window, which is generally easier to operate than the embedded view.

Alternative: if neither works for you, email us and we will send you the files you need directly, or provide direct download links. See "Getting content another way."

Heading structure is uneven

Heading levels are not applied consistently across all pages. Some pages begin at a second-level heading with no top-level heading; on at least one page the levels appear out of order; and several section labels that look like headings are published as ordinary text. Users who navigate by heading will get a less coherent outline of a page than sighted users get visually.

What we are doing: normalising heading levels so every page has one top-level heading and a hierarchy with no skipped or inverted levels.

Some tables are laid out as aligned text

The course statistics on the Exam Advantage page, and several feature strips on the Examulator page, are formatted with spacing and separator characters rather than as real data tables. Screen readers will read them as a continuous run of text with no relationship between a value and its column heading.

What we are doing: rebuilding these as proper tables with row and column headers.

In the meantime: we will send the course statistics as a plain list or spreadsheet on request.

Documents in our Google Drive shares are not all accessibility-checked

The white papers and study materials in our Drive folders were written as personal study aids. They have not all been checked for tagged structure, reading order, or text alternatives, and some may not work well with a screen reader.

Alternative: tell us which document you need and we will provide it in a more accessible format.

Heading anchor links

Google Sites places a copy-link anchor before each heading. In a screen reader's list of links these appear as short meaningless identifiers. This is a platform behaviour we cannot remove.

Third-party embedded and linked content

Google Sites, Google Drive, Ko-fi, Reddit, and Google Play each control their own accessibility. We cannot fix problems inside their interfaces, but we do want to know about them — if a third-party service blocks you from getting something we published, contact us and we will find another way to get it to you.

What we have not yet tested

To be straightforward about the limits of our own review: we have not yet completed systematic testing with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, colour-contrast measurement, or reflow at narrow widths on this website. Statements above about zoom, contrast, and keyboard operability reflect the platform's documented behaviour and our own use, not a formal audit. We will update this statement as that testing is completed.


Getting content another way

Nothing on this website is behind a login, and nothing on it is unavailable in another form. If any page, embedded folder, or document does not work with your assistive technology, email accessibility@certificationtoolanddie.com and tell us what you need. We will send it to you as plain text, as a direct download link, or in whatever format works for you. There is no charge, no form to fill out, and no need to explain or document a disability.


How to report an accessibility problem

We treat accessibility feedback as a defect report, not a feature request.

Email accessibility@certificationtoolanddie.com and, if you can, include:

We aim to respond within 5 business days and to fix reproducible accessibility defects in the next update to the site. If a fix will take longer, or if it is a platform limitation we cannot fix, we will tell you that honestly and offer an alternative route to the content.
